In case anyone else gets burned by this, <a href='http://www.bootsplash.org/'>Bootsplash</a> doe s <em>not</em> work with 2.6.3.  It patches in with one rejection (that's easy to fix), but if you compile and reboot the kernel hard locks almost immediately.
